Free Community Space

We take the concept of the Mead Hall and the Feast very seriously. To this end, we believe that our space needs to be free for community use.

The reason for this is that many of our employees, customers, and almost certainly everyone reading this right now, has at some point been in a position where they couldn't attend a community event due to the cost. Because our Mead Hall is a safe space for so many communities, we want to make it as welcoming as possible, and this means doing what we can to remove that financial concern.

Over the years, we have had many requests to rent or use our space, and we are happy to accommodate private events. Nevertheless, we have decided that we will not charge admission to our events with only two exceptions listed below.

We obviously love if you buy a pint, take home a case, or order a Viking Feast, but you are welcome at the Mead Hall if you just want to come in with your friends on a snowy afternoon to play cards.

The Two Exceptions

The first is a technicality, in the past we have allowed local musicians and DJs to charge a $5 cover to attend their events at the Mead Hall. Since we no longer sponsor these sorts of events, this is no longer and issue. That said, we may have to revisit it in the future.

The second is the real exception. We have hosted events for advocacy groups (such as VBSR and WBON) which use the fees collected to sponsor their work. We will continue to do this for organizations which advocate for positions which support Vermonters and our wider community.

If you were to arrive during one of these events, you would still be welcome, you just wouldn't be allowed to eat the appetizers.
